Bryan Emery

Hello I’m Bryan!

I’ve been involved with VIDEA since my IYIP internship way back in 2015. Since then I’ve been a volunteer & currently sit on the board.

This is my 5th Global Solidarity Challenge, so I’m super excited for this year. I am on team aunties, which means I will be busy as a bee, and will “bugging” my friends and colleagues for their support.

In past years most of my challenges have been physical in nature (no car for a week, walking to work, and exploring local parks), so this year I thought I would exercise my brain muscle. Firstly I will be read the Calls to Actions from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (Monday), and then for the rest of the week I will be reading & comparing local news to international news on local events. This was largely inspired by the difference in news coverage and analysis about what has happened and is happening in South Africa (where I did my IYIP placement way back in 2015).

I live, work, and learn on the unceded traditional territories of the Lək̓ʷəŋən People, the Songhees and Xwsepsum (Esquimalt) Nations, as well as the W̱SÁNEĆ People. I am grateful to the Indigenous Peoples who have cared for and continue to care for this land.
